Now let's put the materials list together. for this job let's say we need: two bulk bags of sharp sand, two bulk bags of building sand, twenty bags of cement, a tub of PVA, and thirty square metres of paving. If you’re collecting, factor in your fuel and time and check what your vehicle or trailer can safely carry. These prices illustrate how the comparison works. I’ll read the details and help you record the spending against the right job. Check what you have picked up, make any corrections and save. For our patio job we’ll record £3,200. that covers the materials for the wider job not just the items we compare to earlier. That purchase is now included in the job’s recorded costs. Let’s see how those costs compare with your quote. Let’s see where the job stands. Our quote is £5,360. We’ve recorded £3,200 for materials. Now let's allow three days of labour at £350 a day. That’s £1,050. Add £50 for other costs and our recorded costs come to £4,300. That leaves £1,060 after the costs we’ve entered. Any overheads or missing costs still need to come off that so it isn't final profit. Keep adding your spending as the job develops and the figures update. Now let's keep the rest of the job organised. For a small job like this patio a few notes and a simple task list may be enough. For a bigger build you can organise the work into stages rooms or trades. Add customer details, record who's doing what and note anything holding things up. The percentage shows how much job information you've added, not how much of the building work is finished. You don't need to reach a hundred per cent.
